UPCOMING GUEST: Trey Reilly

Trey Reilly, found a D&D boxed set sitting in her mother’s closet when she was 12, and it was all downhill from there. She’s written, co-written, run, and staffed a number of LARPs over the years, including Svaha (a 3-year sci-fi LARP campaign), a series of Divus Ex games, Speed Dating, and Madrigal 2.  Her games have been played on five continents, which (according to Trey) is way less impressive than it sounds.

Join us for a conversation about the theatrical world of LARPing, and the ways players find ways to be triumphant in their imagined roles and in real life.

UPCOMING GUEST: Brad Sultan

bradBrad Sultan is a lawyer, but his passion is history, comic books, silent movies, 1920’s jazz, trains, astronomy, and disco-era game shows. He straddles the line between eclectic and just plain weird. A former journalist, legislative aide, and anti-tobacco advocate, Brad’s mind often wanders, but he rarely chases after it. He loves to travel, especially to London. Brad was glad to learn that podcasts, unlike television, do not add 10 pounds to your appearance.

Join us for a rousing discussion of how comic books have influenced us individually and culturally, with a special focus on the secrets behind Wonder Woman and her creator William Moulton Marston.

Happy Minds

The Buddha said, “May all beings have happy minds.” What does it mean to be happy? Is it really just a state of mind? Or can it be served on a plate?

When I think about the times I am most content, I picture my family and friends, and more often than not, we are just sitting around the dinner table. As an Italian-Irish girl, the central role of food was a big part of my early years, and it remains true today. I believe that anyone who comes into my home should be fed…Thank goodness I married a man whose love of food matched my own! My husband and I love to cook and throw dinner parties for our eclectic group of friends. At any given dinner we may have mystics, amateur political pundits, idealists, cynics, the uptight, the laid-back, the lovers, the fighters, the Buddhists, the atheists…or any and all of the above. Our conversations are lively, sometimes heated, but always fueled by good food and good wine (or whiskey). So in that spirit, many of the interviews you will hear on Chasing the Mind will be recorded from this little room off my kitchen where the equipment sits on my dining room table. When possible, our guests will be welcomed with a meal or at least a little nosh. My hope is that not only will our guests feel sated and relaxed, but that the conversations that take place will be reminiscent of friends, just chatting around the table after dinner.
